Precautions

Capsules should not be handled by patients who are or who may be pregnant. If contact with a broken capsule occurs, wash the area immediately with soap and water.

Minoxidil works as a vasodilator, enhancing blood flow and nutrient supply to the hair follicles. It reduces the length of the resting (telogen) phase, encouraging follicles to transition more quickly into the growth (anagen) phase, and extends the duration of that growth phase.¹

Dutasteride blocks both type I and type II forms of the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase, leading to a more substantial reduction in dihydrotestosterone (DHT) levels compared to finasteride, which only targets type II. DHT is a key factor in androgenetic alopecia, which can also affect women and leads to gradual shrinkage of hair follicles. By lowering DHT levels, dutasteride helps prevent further follicle miniaturization, supporting the maintenance of existing hair and potentially encouraging new growth.²

Biotin, also known as vitamin B7, is essential for healthy hair growth, particularly in individuals who are deficient in this nutrient. Biotin deficiency may lead to hair thinning and hair loss. Supplementing with biotin supports the production of keratin, the structural protein that forms hair, skin, and nails. In people with biotin deficiency, supplementation may help strengthen the hair shaft.³

Q. How soon can I expect to see potential benefits?

A. Consistency is key for achieving positive outcomes. Benefits may be noticeable within 3 months, however it may take longer to see the full effects.

Q. Why is dutasteride used instead of finasteride?

A. Dutasteride blocks both type I and type II forms of the enzyme that produces DHT, making it more potent than finasteride for some individuals.

Q. Is this medication suitable for women?

A. While traditionally used in men, these medications are increasingly prescribed off-label for postmenopausal women. Women who are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding should not use dutasteride due to risks of birth defects.

Q. Will I need to take this medication forever?

A. Continued use is needed to maintain positive outcomes. If you stop taking the medication, any new hair growth may be gradually lost over several months.

Q. What if I miss a dose?

A. Just take it when you remember, unless it's close to your next dose. Do not take two doses on the same day.
